HCA & MPrint
In support of Online Medication Administration Records Best Practices
HCA is one of the nation's first hospital companies and has worked closely with local physicians and used innovative business practices and private capital to improve quality and reduce costs. HCA is composed of locally managed facilities that include approximately 191 hospitals and 82 outpatient surgery centers in 23 states, England and Switzerland.
One of the challenges facing hospitals is the ability to have critical information available to the physicians, nurses, and staff 24x7 such that data is up-to-date and the information regarding patient care is complete. When a network or centralized system goes down due to network failure, you need a backup of the information that is timely and accessible.
The Challenge
When it comes to dispensing medications to patients, the HCA hospitals have implemented an Online Medication Administration application. But if the network becomes unavailable, this poses a critical problem.
The Solution
HCA hospitals have utilized MPrint from Interbit Data to provide a solution to this challenge. Each hospital schedules a regular print job to run every hour after each hospital's med pass times, effectively transferring the information to a local PC as a backup measure in the event the network becomes unavailable. This process has reduced their risk of not having the appropriate information when needed.
The Result
Now each hospital has the necessary dosage information on each patient resident in their hospital available to them, regardless of what has occurred in the network. This removes the risk and gives the doctors and nurses the peace of mind to know that they can provide the best care possible.
