Cambridge Memorial Hospital saves time and money with Interbit Data Products
Cambridge Memorial Hospital (CMH), located in Cambridge, Ontario, is part of the Waterloo region near Toronto Canada and services a metropolitan area of 400,000 residents. CMH draws its patients from several smaller surrounding communities as well as larger metropolitan areas.
CMH staffs more than 1300 employees and 300 volunteers in a single standing facility. The organization holds a strong belief that technology is a driving force in modern healthcare. Just recently, the hospital invested $7.5 million in state of the art equipment and renovations to improve medical services available to their patients.
A Valuable Timesaver
CMH has had MPrint in place for just about five years and NetDelivery (formerly NetPrint) for two years. "We were searching for a simple tool that would work nicely with MEDITECH to distribute reports to physicians," said Brad Smith, Clinical Applications Director for CMH. The Interbit Data products they deploy do exactly that. Currently, more than 50 physicians receive reports electronically, enabling them to pick up their reports from folders on the network via CMH's internet portal. Smith has been pleased with the fact that not only have the physicians embraced this application, but it has also saved a great deal of clerical time.
Department staff from Laboratory, Cardiology and Diagnostic Imaging are able to fax multiple reports from their desks. No longer is it necessary to visit each department and/or fax multiple reports to different locations. Report transmission is now just a stroke on the keyboard and reports arrive to their destination within seconds.
CMH has achieved the following results from the use of Interbit Data products:
- Saved three hours per day in Lab and Radiology report distribution.
- Saved two hours per day in the Health Records Department.
- Eliminated the need for more than 50 physicians to make daily visits to the hospital to pick up hard copy reports.
More than just a tool for Medical Report Distribution
CMH has been so pleased with the capability of the Interbit Data products for medical report distribution that they also use the products for distributing other types of reports. All MEDITECH financial reports are scheduled and routed through NetDelivery to transmit reports electronically to managers. This reflects a significant savings in both time and paper.
Another notable application for CMH is the use of MPrint to backup daily lab reports to a PC for access to the most recent report in the event of system or network downtime. They have scheduled MPrint to forward the MEDITECH summary reports on a daily basis to a folder on a PC in the lab.
Simple to Install and Superb Support
CMH's experience with Interbit Data, both with the products and their customer service, has been extremely positive. Smith spoke of the products as easy to install and user friendly. "We had our first report built and up and running within day." It has been advantageous for CMH to upload their MEDITECH provider dictionary to the NetDelivery recipient dictionary daily to keep the two in synch automatically with no user intervention. In addition to their multiple uses, products are priced affordably.
When dealing directly with Interbit Data, Smith has found the service to be outstanding. Both Jim Carey and Martin O'Brien are readily available and always willing to troubleshoot issues. Smith summarizes CMH's satisfaction with Interbit Data as "We have been quite satisfied. The experience has been nothing but positive. The products are so versatile that I always have them in mind when designing a new process for a department or user".
